Loxarel wines are ecological and biodynamic; they breathe the countryside and enfold the essence of everything that surrounds the vineyards. In the cellars at Vilobídel Penedès natural wines with character are at rest, sparkling wines with personality and wines from local varieties which sparkle once more in the lines of Penedès vines after having been forgotten for so many years.
The xarel·lo, red xarel·lo, garnacha, macabeo, and parellada are the star varieties of the cellar. But there is also space to obtain the best from the merlot, the Alejandria moscatel and the tempranillo; to take advantage of the virtues of the pinot-noir, sirah and chardonnay at their optimum moment; and to demonstrate the adaptation of a cabernet sauvignon which arrived in the Penedès in the middle of the 20th century and is here to stay.

The path to innovation
The innovative, daring and restless spirit of Josep Mitjans has opened during the last ten years an interesting and experimental path which has led the cellar to bottle the first single variety of red xarel·lo with a colour similar to that of an onion skin; to work the xarel·lo in amphoras to recover its mineral characteristics and to launch on the market a sparkling wine with a maturity of more than 109 months without disgorging, which was awarded 95 points in the prestigious magazine Wine Advocate.
In this line, the cellar in Vilobídel Penedès has worked intensely during the last years to promote the elaboration of natural wines with very controlled fermentation in order to maintain the coherence of the philosophy applied by the cellar to its vineyards, whilst at the same time, opening the way to some of the most respected wines from their origins to the moment they arrive at the table.
